What items am I not allowed to store in a container?

Sunshine Self Storage, located in Albion. Drive-up 10ft, 20ft and 40ft containers, open 5am to 9pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Some goods can't be stored at Sunshine Self Storage, for the safety of your belongings, other customers and the yard. Under our standard SSAA storage agreement, you can't store anything hazardous, dangerous, illegal (including tobacco), stolen, flammable, explosive, environmentally harmful, perishable or living. That means no fuel, gas bottles, chemicals, food, plants or pets.

One rule catches people out: no lithium-ion batteries, or anything containing one. That includes cordless tool batteries, e-bikes, e-scooters, power banks and many electronics. Take the batteries out and keep them at home.

You also can't store documents containing personal information, such as customer files, staff records or medical records.

Goods worth more than $1,000 in total, or anything irreplaceable, can only be stored if they are itemised and specifically insured. Insurance is up to you.

Whatever goes in must be dry, reasonably clean and free of vermin, mould and food scraps. Drain the fuel from mowers and other petrol gear first. And nothing can be stored or left outside your container.

Cars in our car containers are a separate case. See our car storage page for how to store a vehicle properly.
