Tips for storing a car
A few things that keep a stored car in good shape. For anything specific to your car, ask your mechanic.
Getting it in
There is a 70mm lip between the ground and the container floor, so bring ramps or a couple of chocks of wood. Reverse in, so the battery is easy to reach later.
Fuel, oil and fluids
Fill the tank just before you store it, so less moisture builds up. Change the engine oil and filter first, because old oil thickens and carries contaminants. Top up the brake fluid and coolant if they are due.
Battery
For long storage, take the battery out and clean the terminals with baking soda and water.
Inside and out
Clean the inside and the boot so it does not smell when you come back. Wax the paint, and use a breathable car cover, never a tarp or plastic, which traps moisture. Leave the windows open about 5mm.
Handbrake, tyres and leaks
Leave the handbrake off and chock the wheels, so the pads do not stick. Pump the tyres up a little to stop flat spots. Put an oil tray under the engine: cleaning fees may apply if oil leaks onto the container floor.
