How hot will it get inside my container during an Australian summer?

Sunshine Self Storage, located in Albion. Drive-up 10ft, 20ft and 40ft containers, open 5am to 9pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

We will be straight with you: our containers are not climate controlled, so the temperature inside follows Melbourne's weather. On a hot summer day, a steel container in the sun will get warm inside, and on a cold winter night it will get cold. If you need a steady temperature, a container is not the right choice.

For most goods, that is no problem at all. Furniture, tools, equipment, whitegoods, boxes of household goods and stock all store well. Many of them already spent weeks at sea in a shipping container on the way to Australia.

Some things need more thought. Anything that melts, warps or spoils in heat, such as candles, wax, vinyl records, some cosmetics, artworks, antiques and sensitive electronics, may be better in a climate-controlled facility. Food and perishables can't be stored with us at all.

A few tips help. Many of our containers sit side by side, and neighbouring containers and buildings give shade at different times of day. Keep sensitive goods away from the roof and outer walls. A standard container is roughly 2.4m high inside, so don't stack the delicate things right to the top. Leave a small gap for air, and check your goods during long stays.
