Can I store machinery or equipment that still contains oil or fuel?

Machinery and equipment are welcome at Sunshine Self Storage, but they need to be prepared properly first. Fuel and flammable goods can't be stored, so drain the fuel tank on mowers, generators, compressors, chainsaws, blowers, whipper snippers and similar gear before it goes in. Draining the tank also stops fumes and smells building up in a sealed container.

Engine oil inside a machine is a different matter, but leaks are your responsibility. Put a drip tray or oil tray under anything that might leak. Cleaning fees may apply if oil or fluids leak onto the container floor. Wipe down greasy equipment before you load it, and check for loose hoses or weeping seals.

Batteries need attention too. Lithium-ion batteries, or anything containing one, can't be stored. Take them out of cordless tools and battery-powered machinery and keep them at home. For other battery types, disconnecting them is good practice.

A few more tips. Wipe metal parts with a few drops of oil to protect them from rust. Keep heavy machinery near the doors so it is easier to move. There is a 70mm lip at the container door, so bring a ramp for anything on wheels.
