Can I store flammable items like fuel, gas bottles or paint?

No. Flammable, explosive and hazardous goods can't be stored at Sunshine Self Storage. That is a rule in our standard SSAA storage agreement, and it is there to protect your belongings, other customers' goods and the whole yard. One leaking fuel can or gas bottle in a sealed steel container can cause a fire or explosion.

That means no petrol, diesel or fuel cans, no LPG, propane or other gas bottles, and no paint thinners, solvents, oil-based paints, aerosols or chemicals. Paint and similar products can be flammable or hazardous, so leave them out. If you are unsure about something, ask us before you load it.

Petrol-powered gear can be stored once you drain the tank. Mowers, whipper snippers, leaf blowers, generators and chainsaws all need the fuel drained first, which also stops fumes and smells building up.

Remember the battery rule too. Lithium-ion batteries, or anything containing one, can't be stored. That includes cordless tool batteries, e-bikes and power banks.
