Can I store a classic or unregistered car in a container?

Yes. Classic cars, project cars and unregistered cars are all fine to store at Sunshine Self Storage, no issues at all. We have a number of cars on site already, and storing yours is easy.

Our car containers are 20ft and 40ft containers placed so you can drive a car straight in. A 20ft car container fits one car for $299 a month. A 40ft car container has room for one or two cars for $580 a month. Your car is kept out of the sun, rain, hail and dust, behind your own padlock in an anti-theft lockbox, in a yard with a card-access gate and alarms and cameras monitored 24/7.

If your car isn't registered, bring it in on a trailer or tow truck, then roll it into the container.

A few things keep a classic in good shape. There is a 70mm lip between the ground and the container floor, so bring ramps or chocks of wood, and reverse in so the battery is easy to reach. Change the oil and filter first, top up the brake fluid and coolant, and take the battery out for long stays. Clean the inside, wax the paint, and use a breathable car cover, never a tarp or plastic. Leave the windows open about 5mm, leave the handbrake off and chock the wheels, and pump the tyres up a little. Put an oil tray under the engine.
