Is there power or lighting available in or near my container?
Sunshine Self Storage, located in Albion. Drive-up 10ft, 20ft and 40ft containers, open 5am to 9pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
No. There is no power and no lighting in or near our containers at Sunshine Self Storage. They are plain, secure shipping containers, and keeping things simple is part of how we keep our prices up to 57% cheaper than the big chains nearby.
In practice, most customers don't miss it. Access is 5am to 9pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and with both doors swung open, daylight reaches well inside. For early mornings, evenings in winter or the back of a 40ft, a good torch or head lamp does the job.
If you plan to work in your container, for example as a workshop or to pack orders, plan around having no power. Use battery-powered tools and lights, and charge them at home.
One rule to remember: battery-powered lights and tools are fine to bring with you, but don't leave lithium-ion batteries in your container. Our storage agreement doesn't allow lithium-ion batteries, or anything containing one, to be stored. That includes rechargeable lanterns, power banks and cordless tool batteries. Take them home when you leave.
Pack smart so you can find things in low light. Label boxes on more than one side, keep your most-used items near the doors, and stick a simple map of the container on the wall.
