How do I get my car into a car container safely?

Sunshine Self Storage, located in Albion. Drive-up 10ft, 20ft and 40ft containers, open 5am to 9pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Some of our 20ft and 40ft containers at Sunshine Self Storage are car containers, placed so you can drive a car straight in. Here is how to do it safely.

Bring ramps: there is a 70mm lip between the ground and the container floor. Bring car ramps, or a couple of chocks of wood, so the car rolls over the lip without scraping.

Open up fully: swing both doors right open. Fold in your mirrors.

Get a spotter: have someone stand outside to guide you in, watching both sides and the roof.

Reverse in: back the car in slowly, so the battery and engine are easy to reach later, and so you can drive straight out.

Leave room to get out: stop where you can open a door and climb out. A 20ft car container fits one car, and a 40ft has room for one or two.

Then set it up for storage. Leave the handbrake off and chock the wheels, so the brake pads don't stick. Put an oil tray under the engine, because cleaning fees may apply if oil leaks onto the floor. Use a breathable car cover, never a tarp or plastic, and leave the windows open about 5mm.

A 20ft car container costs $299 a month and a 40ft costs $580, with 50% off your first three months for a limited time. Sunshine Self Storage is located in Albion. Call us 03 9010 6147.
