Could my belongings be sold if my account falls behind on payments?

Yes, in the end, but only after a long process with plenty of notice. Here is the straight answer, under the standard SSAA storage agreement used across the industry.

When rent isn't paid on time, a late fee applies. If the account stays overdue, Sunshine Self Storage may deny access to your container until it is paid, claim a lien over the goods, and report the debt to StorerCheck, a debt collector or a credit agency.

Selling goods is the last step, and there are firm rules. It can't happen earlier than 42 days after the default, and only after at least 14 days' written notice to you. If goods are sold, the money goes to what is owed, and any money left over is returned to you.

We don't want it to come to that. Almost every payment problem can be sorted with a phone call. If you are struggling, your card has been cancelled, or you are overseas and can't pay, call or email us early. We are real people, and we would much rather work something out with you.

To avoid problems, keep your payment details and contact details current. If we can't reach you, we can't help you.
