How much can I fit in a 20-foot container?

A 20ft container holds 33.1 m³, which is roughly the contents of a two to three bedroom home. That usually covers beds, couches, a dining setting, whitegoods and the boxes that go with them. For a business, it fits a solid amount of stock, equipment or vehicle parts. If it is a car container, it fits one car.

How much you actually get in comes down to how you pack. The ceiling is 2.39m high, so stack boxes high, with the heaviest at the bottom and the lightest on top. Take bed frames apart, stand mattresses on end, and use the inside of fridges and wardrobes for linen and books. Keep boxes to around 20kg so they are easy to lift and stack.

Leave a small gap between your goods and the walls so air can move, and keep the things you need most often at the front.
