How should I pack my container to reduce condensation?
Sunshine Self Storage, located in Albion. Drive-up 10ft, 20ft and 40ft containers, open 5am to 9pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Condensation comes from moisture inside the container, so the trick is to keep moisture out of your goods and let air move. Our containers at Sunshine Self Storage are airtight and waterproof, but they are not climate controlled, so how you pack matters.
Pack dry. Make sure everything is clean and completely dry before it goes in. That means whitegoods drained and dried, outdoor furniture dried off, and nothing packed straight after rain. Never pack wet or damp items.
Skip the rubbish bags. Plastic bags trap moisture and cause mildew. Use sturdy boxes, wardrobe cartons or breathable covers. For furniture, use cloth covers, not plastic sheeting.
Get goods off the floor. Pallets lift your goods up and let air move underneath.
Leave space for air. Keep a small gap between your goods and the walls, and don't stack cartons hard against the roof. Put lighter boxes on top of stronger ones.
Open things up. Wedge fridge and freezer doors open, and leave drawers slightly ajar.
Use moisture absorbers, and check and replace them during long stays.
Finally, visit now and then, especially on long stays, and tell us if you notice anything. Our storage agreement asks that goods are dry and free of mould, which protects every customer.
