What is an anti-theft lockbox, and what kind of padlock fits it?

An anti-theft lockbox is a steel box on the container door that surrounds your padlock. At Sunshine Self Storage, every container has one. It shields the padlock so bolt cutters, hammers and pry bars can't easily get at the shackle. Combined with the container's three-point locking system, it makes your container a very hard target. Only you hold the key.

The right padlock matters, because it has to fit inside the lockbox and still be strong. Look for four things.

Weather resistance: choose a padlock designed for outdoor use, with corrosion-resistant materials and a protected mechanism. Indoor locks rust and can become hard or impossible to open.

Strength and quality: a robust body, a strong shackle and a reputable security rating. Price alone doesn't tell you how secure a lock is.

The right fit: check the shackle diameter, clearance and body size against the lockbox. Ask us to confirm the fit before you buy.

A protected shackle: pick the shortest shackle that still works inside the lockbox. A long, exposed shackle gives tools more room.
